Moving to Another Country

Moving to another country is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Whether you’re moving for work, or chasing a dream of living the good life in the sun, these steps can help you get organised for the big move.

Before you go

Once you’ve decided on your destination, there are several things you’ll have to organise.

Work out your paperwork: You may need a specific visa to live and work in certain countries and it’s important to get this arranged as a priority so you can hit the ground running when you start looking for jobs and housing.

Consider healthcare requirements: You might need specific vaccines to enter certain countries which you’ll need to organise in advance. It’s also important to take copies of your medical records, such as your vaccinations, with you to be able to pass onto your new healthcare provider.

Tell your bank you’re moving: Keep service providers, such as your phone and bank, informed about your moving date, so they can transfer your accounts if necessary. You might also need to create new accounts.

Learn about the culture: Watching some TV or even YouTube videos about the area you’re moving to can be a great way to learn about cultural differences in your new home.

Decide what you want to move: Whether you’re planning to move your whole home, or just a few treasured items, you’ll need to work out how you’re going to transport your things. Hiring a removals company who work abroad is a good idea and can take a lot of stress out of moving, both in packing up your items in the UK and unpacking them at the other end.

But most of all, enjoy the experience! It can feel like a logistical nightmare but this is an amazing opportunity to see a new place, meet new people, and take the opportunity to create wonderful memories.
