What to Consider with Internet and Phone Lines when Moving?

There are a hundred and one things to consider when moving home, but one of the most important is often overlooked or left until last. Sorting out your phoneline and broadband when moving house can be as simple as just letting your provider know you’ve changed addresses, but in other cases it can be more complex. Here are a few things you should consider when moving.

Does your current provider cover your new home?

Not all providers have coverage in the whole country so if you’re moving to another region, you might find your current provider doesn’t service your new area. There are online postcode checkers you can use to make sure, or you can always get in touch with your provider to ask them. In this case, you will obviously need to change providers completely. Comparison sites are often the best way to go about this as they’ll allow you to compare deals and packages.

Is your current contract nearly up?

While there may be a charge for terminating your phone or broadband package early, bear in mind that providers often have excellent welcome deals for new customers. This could ensure you save money in the long run so don’t be too disheartened if you need to pay a termination fee. Moving house can also be a great excuse to cancel the services of a provider you’re not happy with and start with a better one.

If you’re happy with the service and cost of your current provider, and they provide coverage in your new home’s area, it should be fairly straightforward to stick with them. Most companies have designated teams to deal with homeowners and in most cases, switches go smoothly.

Remember: planning ahead means you’ll get everything in place sooner and will avoid lengthy waiting times for installation or connection.
